  • Click on “Send OTP” or “Enter OTP.” The OTP will be sent to the registered mobile phone number via SMS, and it must be entered on the same page.
  • Check the OTP.
  • You will see a message on your screen that says, ‘Your Aadhaar number has been successfully locked.’ For authentication, use VID.’

Steps To Unlock Aadhaar Biometric Data Online

Follow the simple steps outlined below to unlock your Aadhaar biometric data online:

  • Go to the UIDAI website and select ‘Aadhaar Lock and Unlock Service’ from the ‘My Aadhaar’ and ‘Aadhaar Services’ menus.
  • Enter your Aadhaar or Virtual ID number (12 digits) (16 digit)
  • Captcha is required for verification.
  • Click the ‘Send OTP’ button.
  • Enter the OTP and press the ‘Submit’ button.

Please keep in mind that in order to Lock and/or Unlock biometric data, you will need to create a Virtual ID. The steps for creating a virtual ID are outlined below.

  • Go to the UIDAI website and select ‘Virtual ID (VID) Generator’ from the ‘My Aadhaar’ and ‘Aadhaar Services’ menus.
  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number here.
  • Enter the captcha
  • Click the ‘Send OTP’ button.
  • Enter ‘OTP’ and press the ‘Submit’ button.

The 16-digit virtual ID will be texted to your registered mobile number. The VID is a random 16-digit temporary, revocable number that corresponds to the Aadhaar number. For e-KYC and authentication, it can be used instead of an Aadhaar number. Authenticating with a VID number is similar to authenticating with an Aadhaar number. However, the VID cannot be used to calculate your Aadhaar number.
